A classic classy autumn aesthetic isn’t hard to achieve when you look to nature for inspiration. As an empty nester and serial downsizer, I typically don’t change out my decor with the seasons. Oh, I’m an over the top Christmas decor kind of gal, but not much more on other holidays or season. But, I do like to warm up the aesthetic of our home as the summer draws to a close and the chill of autumn makes its entrance.
As I sit on my sofa writing this, it’s a hot and humid summer day. But there is a thunderstorm brewing in the distance, and as the thunder claps and the lightweight flashes, I listen to the rain on the tin roof outside our apartment window and dream of fall.
If you are looking forward to some autumn goodness, but don’t want to go over the top with pumpkins and faux florals, these ideas are sure to set you on the right path.
Warm vibes and cozy atmospheres
Alright, so I’m a compulsive Pinterest addict. I love how creative people are and how beautiful some of the images can be. Even still, I’m not a huge fan of the over the top, pumpkins on every surface, “It’s Fall Y’all” porch signs that can dominate autumn decor as of late.
I prefer little subtle touches that bring in a warmer vibe and a cozy atmosphere. Want to see what I’ve found? Let’s take a Quick Look.
Classic autumn mealtime
These three items feel like a classic, classy autumn to me. The cutting boards are from Pottery Barn (linked), the salad bowl is from Walmart (linked) and the fruit print is also from Pottery Barn (linked.)
When we add in these touches to our homes, they don’t necessarily scream autumn, but they do give a warm autumnal vibe. I own the salad bowl and a coordinating soup taurine with lid and I have used them at many a fall gathering. We love them. They are both subtle and stunning on a buffet table.
Classic autumn nights at home
Let me say it right now. I love a good plaid for fall. I know there are a lot of orange plaids this time of year but brown plaids, gray plaids and neutral tartan plaids are what I gravitate toward. Whether it’s a soft snuggly blanket or a fluffy throw pillow, plaid is the pattern of choice for me when it comes to a classic classy autumn family room.
The pillow is from Etsy, and the throw is from Pottery Barn. Here are a couple of my favorites I purchased from Amazon: Pillow. Throw.
Classic Autumn Atmosphere
When it comes to a classic classy autumn atmosphere, I just can’t get past a little rainy day coffee shop visit. I know there are a lot of chains these days, but if you have some local shops in your area, please do give them a try. The coffee and service are typically better, and the atmosphere can’t be beat.
Here are a few of our local shops in case you’re in the Bowling Green area:
Finally, a classic autumn wonderland
I am a sucker for a rainy day. Throw in some soothing music and I’m a goner. The vibes are too much for me. And so, I want to leave you with a few of my favorite soothing sounds. As the summer fades into fall, it’s never too early to start day dreaming about how you can enjoy the change of seasons, and add a little classic classy autumn into your own home.
