discover home:
Spring has been springing all over the place around these parts. We’ve celebrated several days above 70 degrees (F) and I’ve taken many walks and spent many time at the neighborhood park. Is there any feeling more classic than spring? The fresh air, the sunshine, the breeze, the smell of fresh mulch or mowed grass? All of this sunshine and warm weather has inspired me to embrace the classics inside my home as well. Here’s a bit of spring inspiration that might just have you re-thinking your home, too.
The One Habit that Can Change Your Life
Yes, it’s actually true: Making your bed can literally change your life. It’s a two-minute task at the start of each day that signals your brain to action – and to completion. So if you’re a lover of check boxes, making your bed each morning gets that ball rolling and boxes checking.
It also gives you a very safe place to come home to at the end of your day. Even if nothing else went right the whole day, you know you still have that one accomplishment you did for yourself to come back to. So if you’re looking for a something new to lend a little spring inspiration to your life, I encourage you – challenge you – to take five minutes each morning, simply to make your bed. It truly is a life-changing habit you will not regret.

Classic Color Palette…
It’s no secret that I love a classic color palette. Ours consists of black, taupe, cream, gray, and brown. It may sound boring to you, but it feels like home to us. In fact, every so often, I get a wild and crazy idea to change things up and add in a splash of color here or there. My idea of adding color means tossing in a bit of greenery, some white florals, or maybe some classic red during the holidays. But always, always, I come back to the comfort of neutrals.
But neutrals don’t have to be boring. You can add pizazz and punch in affordable and eye-catching ways. And maybe add a little spring inspiration in as well.
Refresh your bedding…
I love a crisp cool cotton sheet. In fact, there is nothing quite like climbing into a fresh bed made with cotton sheets (in my humble opinion). There are a few things I like to do to refresh my bedding each week, that lead to a relaxing routine, and a relaxing bed-time experience.
Choose the best quality you can afford…
I have several sheet sets that I have purchased over the last couple of years. While I love the brushed microfibre sets I purchased from Amazon (let’s be honest, they wash up beautifully and never need ironing), I also have three sets of 100% cotton sheets that I go after week after week after week.
Currently, I’m using a white set with a delicate black floral pattern. They are stunning and blend in beautifully with our modern color palette. They add a classic touch to a more modern aesthetic. But the touch of floral brings in a delicate touch of spring inspiration I simply can’t get over.

I purchased this set at TJMaxx last summer, but find them to be one of my all time favorites for their quality and their comfort. And you’ll never guess what I did with the little fabric bag they came in.
Splurge on beauty…
Let’s be honest, no one has time to stand and iron sheets each week. Even if I did have the time, I don’t believe I’d use it ironing my bed sheets.
However, I do believe I can splurge on time well spent in ironing just the pillow cases and the hem of the top sheet. While it may not feel like it makes much of a difference, believe me, when you make your bed, those areas are the ones you see most clearly. Having a neat and tidy hem is a time splurge that is worth making.
The proof is in the pudding as they say. Here is the before and after of freshly ironed pillow cases and hems.

Don’t neglect the details…
Now for the fun part. I find a lot of spring inspiration in making my bed with beautiful, crisp textiles. But the real magic happens when we pay attention to the details.
But first, let’s talk about these lamps. They are Safevieh and have a woven leather-like finish. They are nothing short of stunning. And that’s where my spring inspiration for our bedding took shape.

Then, let’s address the candle and marble dish….
I purchased the marble dish at Target, but quantities were limited. The candle came from a little shop called Pop Shelf, and last time I checked they were sold out.
The scent of this candle is fresh and clean and just look at the detail in the blown glass! AAAAHHHH – chef’s kiss!!!

Give attention to bedding and pillows…
We recently upgraded our bed covering to a silk duvet cover and summer weight duvet. Recently I stayed at a hotel and had the sleep of a lifetime. Immediately upon waking up, I began searching for the exact bedding. I purchased the duvet, the duvet cover, and the feather pillows. I’ll link what I can below.
Next, we topped it all off with two woven leather pillow covers. They match the pattern in the lamps and they are stunning! We also added in one velvet pillow to speak to the velvet draperies. Together they are a classic look just brimming with spring inspiration.

Together this combination is both classic and laden with spring inspiration. There is something welcoming and fresh about the combination of the soft bedding, and the leather and velvet accents.
Follow it up with a touch of comfort…
Finally, we placed a black quilt at the foot of the bed. This quilt we’ve had for several years. Truthfully, it’s a twin size quilt. But having a king-sized bed, I found it fits perfectly across the foot. It adds an extra layer of warmth when the nights grow chilly, and it’s perfect for a quick afternoon nap.
What makes this quilt so perfect is the basket-weave pattern in the quilt. It mimics the woven leather on the lamp and the pillows, and also adds another layer of softness and comfort.
If spring doesn’t just call for an extra layer of comfort, I don’t know what does.

Altogether, this bedding and bed-making routine always brings me such joy. Whether it’s climbing into bed with crisp, cool sheets, or simply walking through the room and smiling at the floral pattern on the sheets, this room is brimming with spring inspiration!
