How does one make a small bathroom feel like a spa? If you’ve ever visited a spa, you know the peaceful and tranquil aesthetic. We recently visited a local spa for a couple’s massage and I literally wanted to capture the feeling and take it home with me. The lighting, warm towels, candles, music; it all worked together to create that ambiance.
When you live in a small space, every item has to play an important role in order to earn its right to be there. We are fortunate enough in our apartment to have two full bathrooms. One bathroom has a tub and shower combo, and the other has a walk-in shower. Both are amazing! The soaker tub is large and so comfy. The walk-in shower is huge and has full panel glass walls. But, with luxury vinyl floors, shaker-style cabinets and modern skirting and trim, it could feel a little….cold and sterile. Not anything like a spa.
Include Scent
We love to have a signature scent in our home. My favorite summer scent is easily Vanilla Sandalwood. In the fall, I love a good pumpkin spice fragrance, and during the holidays I love anything pine, cedar, or evergreen scented. I believe scent transforms a house into a home and creates memories for anyone who visits.
Scent is very important, especially when you want to make a bathroom feel like a spa. I like something clean and fresh smelling, but not overpowering. Eucalyptus, fresh linen, or ocean spray fragrances are all great options to help create a spa-like ambiance.
Here are three of my favorites, and they don’t cost an arm and a leg:
Create Cozy
To make a bathroom feel like a spa, you have to create cozy. One way to do that is to incorporate the best towels you can afford. Towels can be purchased in a variety of price ranges. To be honest, my favorite towels were purchased at Walmart-mart for less than $6.00 each. They are textured, so incredibly soft, and wash up beautifully. My husband loves them as well because they come in bath size, and bath sheet size.
To really make a bathroom feel like a spa, a towel warmer is an absolute luxury. Towel warmers come in lots of shapes, sizes and price ranges. There is nothing like wrapping up with a warm towel as soon as you step out of the shower or bath.
Add Greenery
Hands down, adding greenery is the easiest way to make a bathroom feel like a spa. I have used dried eucalyptus in vases and hung in the shower. The steam will create an amazing mossy scent that is heavenly. If you aren’t fond of dried eucalyptus, moss bowls are another beautiful way to add greenery in a bathroom. I have an entire post on how to easily create RH inspired moss bowls in your home.
Make it Warm & Welcoming
Finally, a key element to make a bathroom feel like a spa is to add wood elements and upgraded soap options. Who doesn’t love a little pampering? Adding wood elements like dough bowls or wooden trays to hold upgraded bath and body products will take your bathroom from blah to spa in no time. Here are some of our favorites:
There you have it
And now you know exactly how to make a small bathroom feel like a spa. By incorporating these simple elements, you will transform even the tiniest of bathrooms into an oasis you won’t want to leave. All you have left to do is indulge!
