The Perfect Time for a Spring Reset

The temperatures are in the 70’s here today. We still have mounds of snow piled throughout the community, and the gravel path at the park this morning was quite slushy. But the sun is shining, there’s a soft breeze blowing, and the air smells like spring. That can only mean one thing! It’s the perfect time for a spring reset.

It’s still winter…

Okay, fair point. It is still winter. However, the days are inching closer and closer to spring. In fact, it’s only a few short weeks away. Each year, there are a few small tasks I routinely do to celebrate spring even before it officially debuts.

Lighten up…

Like so many, we prefer a neutral color palette in our spaces. It helps us swap in warmer colors and textures for the cooler months like fall and winter, but it also allows us to lighten things up for a good spring reset.

I mean, spring is the season of new beginnings, right? Flowers bloom, trees bud, the sun stays out a bit longer. Ahhhh, spring. A time to throw open the windows, let in a warm breeze, air out the old, and look forward to the new. Not in a big, bold, start-from-scratch kind of way, but more in a fresh, subtle, breath-of-fresh-air sort of way.

Bright White and Fresh Textures…

After a long cold winter, spring spaces feel fresher when we incorporate a little white. This can be as simple as swapping out winter greenery for white or cream colored faux hydrangeas. (I’ll link my favorites at the end – THEY ARE SOOOO GOOOD!)

Swapping velvet pillow covers for cotton or linen also brings the feeling of a spring reset to your home. It’s also easy to swap out fragrances, as well. While warmer fragrances like wood smoke and amber are amazing for the fall and winter, vanilla and sandalwood or oak moss are beautifully light for spring.

Pare it back…

During the fall and winter months, we hunker down and snuggle in with warm blankets and fuzzy textiles. But we also bring out a ew additional accessories to create cozy spaces within our homes.

A good spring reset quite invites us to pare things back to the basics again. Simplify. Let the mind, body, and soul rest. Consider your well-loved styling objects, and pare them back to just your absolute favorites. But continue to think on the lighter side. Travertine while warm in texture can be a simple look due to its hue.

Choose coffee table books in linen covers that are beige or cream. Store away the darker tones for another time. Revisit them again when the days beckon you to once again snuggle in.

Seating for…

And while we’re at it, why not think through those table top accessories for the dining room? Store away heavy woven placemats for lighter linen ones, or simply pare back to a beautiful table runner. Put away those heavy napkins for a spring reset of white, cream, or linen.

Don’t forget the table setting, as well. Spring beckons us outdoors for barbecues, cook outs, and picnics. The days are longer and the feeling is lighter. Reflect that personality in your tableware if you’re able. Opt for subtle patterns and soft textures and you’ll spring ready in no time.

Swap out heavy textured textiles for cottons and linens, soft, lightweight throw blankets, and throw open those windows for a little fresh air.

Pare back accessories, leaving the room feeling lighter overall. Keep accessories that are visually light, as well; creams, whites, linens.

Prepare your kitchen or dining table for impromptu spring gatherings with fresh linens, lighter textures, and don’t forget a bouquet of fresh / faux spring florals.
