Want to know the best dairy free latte version I’ve found? Come on in, I’ll make you one.
Hello, friend! I love a good coffee. Make it a latte and I’m in heaven. For years I filled my cup with store-bought creamers and struggled with syrups that were too heavy or too sweet. There was always an after-taste that seemed to overwhelm the coffee experience. I craved a coffee experience that had a rich coffee base, a smooth and wholesome creamer, and just a hint of natural sweetness. After years of practice and a lot of trial and error, I’m happy to say I’ve found an amazing recipe!
Smooth, creamy and frothy
What plant based, vegan friendly, non-soy options are there? Recently, I came upon a dairy-free version of half-and-half that I really enjoy. It has all the components that make half-and-half amazing. It’s creamy, it’s delicious, it’s frothy. If you’re dairy free, then this creamer is EVERYTHING, and I think I’ve tried them all!
Even if you don’t follow a dairy free diet, this creamer is still amazing! It lends the full body creaminess of half and half, but with a fraction of the calories. In fact, it may easily be one of the healthier options on the market. Low calories, no cholesterol, no sugar, very little fat. It’s like a little dose of miracle in that cardboard carton!
The coffee makes all the difference
While I am a latte enthusiast, the coffee is where the whole wonderful thing begins. We recently were introduced to Oliver Pluff & Co coffees. Someone recommended them to us, and we gave them a try. They do not disappoint. We purchased the Bourbon Vanilla ground, and the flavor is out of this world. It’s good as a stand alone if you’re not into the designer coffee experience of a latte and just enjoy a nice black coffee. So, so good.
As an update to this original post, I am adding in the Starbucks Premium Instant coffees. I was truly skeptical at the thought of instant coffee, my mind lingering around the days of Sanka, but the Starbucks Premium Instants are really good. My husband is a black coffee drinker, and he is even impressed. THAT is a feat in itself!
All the add ins
For this latte recipe, I like the following ingredients. Simple, but in my opinion, they can’t be beat.
- 1 tsp Maple Syrup – any brand, but I prefer Spring Tree Maple Syrup
- 1/2 tsp Ground Cinnamon – any brand, the one I use is a generic
- 2 TBS Silk Half and Half – Creamy oat milk and coconut milk half & half blend
- Hand-held Frother
I have tried so many coffee creamers in my coffee drinking lifetime. Most of them left an odd, unnatural after taste. When we needed to transition to dairy free options, I feared my latte days were done. Some dairy free creamers were too thin, some were flavorless, some were high in calories. For a long time I thought I was doomed to drinking sub-par lattes.
Until I found Silk brand half and half at our local grocery. It is half coconut milk and half oat milk. Let me spill the tea – or the creamer, as it were. This creamer froths like a full bodied whipping cream. It is smooth and creamy in texture, and leaves no aftertaste. Look at the beautiful frothy goodness in that cup! *This post is not sponsored.
It is a sight to behold and a pleasure to enjoy. Bonus, it is free from all the things we are told to avoid. It’s vegan, it’s dairy free, non- GMO, gluten free, and keto friendly. It’s only 15 calories per tablespoon, <1 gram carbs, and only 1.5 grams of saturated fat.
That’s a win
All of the benefits and drinkability of a dairy based creamer, but none of the side effects. It’s honestly so good.
