What inspires you? I am inspired by so many things. Organized spaces inspire me. Clean spaces inspire me. Improved efficiency inspires me. New experiences inspire me. Even with all the content around us, how do we find inspiration when it feels so mundane?
Beauty In the Mundane
It’s easy to get caught up in the mundane. Alarm, breakfast, workout, dishes, work, chores, nightly routine, start over again tomorrow. Life can be routine and grow stale if we let it. It doesn’t take much to add a little pizzaz to a daily routine or weekly task list. It can be a beautiful photo, the dream of something new, gratitude, or simplification. There can be beauty in the mundane things, too. Finding inspiration is simple if we learn to look for it.
Learn to See Beauty
When we first decided to put our plan of moving into action, we knew our first step was simplification. That stands to reason when you’re moving from a nearly 4,000 square foot home to a 1,200 square foot apartment. I knew I wanted to maintain the style in which we lived. Still, we needed to pair down. A lot!
I searched Pinterest and Instagram and all manor of places trying to find inspiration. I binge watched YouTube videos trying to find my specific aesthetic. My question was how could I create a space of my dreams without all the stuff we had accumulated over 33+ years of marriage?
Everyday Things Become Inspiration
One day it happened. I was folding laundry, a seemingly mundane task. The sun was filtering through the window, dappled by clouds and tree leaves. Suddenly, the thought occurred that the kitchen dish towels and washcloths I was folding looked like something you might see on Pinterest. It was that moment I started to see beauty in the mundane things around me. When I found beauty in the mundane, I found inspiration all around me.
