How to Start Over: Moving is the Great Reset. Let’s be honest, life gets redundant. We get bored. People get into ruts. We just do the same thing day after day after day. Until one day we wake up and realize….maybe it’s time for a change. Maybe I need a reset.
That’s kind of where we were too. We had been married for 33 years, our oldest had moved away, our youngest was graduating and going to college. We didn’t need a 4,000 square foot house anymore. The ability to work remotely was available to us. We weren’t old enough to retire, and were still young enough to get out and enjoy things.
There had to be more to life than working nine hours a day, cleaning house, maintaining a yard, and running errands. We wanted to live like we were on vacation. One friend said, “OH! You’re going to work to live, not live to work!” That was so well said. I’m so glad she shared her wisdom. Moving was our great reset.
How to Start Over
Starting over can be hard depending on the circumstances. But it can also be invigorating, refreshing, life-giving and adventurous. How do you start over, though? Well, there’s a lot involved in that question. It requires a lot of planning, and a LOT of dreaming.
We dreamt of living in a new place every year. So we planned how to make that move easy and affordable. We culled our belongings and purchased intentional replacements. It took time, but the results were well worth it.
Moving is The Great Reset
Moving from one place to another creates a great reset in us. We change our habits, and adjust our routines. Maybe we take up a new hobby or a fresh exercise program. One day we go to sleep our same old selves, and the next day we wake up someone new.
The great reset mentality happens organically almost. There is a fantastic podcast about it by Dr. Mindy Pelz if you want to listen. She talks specifically about how people create new starts simply by moving, or changing their daily routine. SO GOOD!
When the Move Creates a New You
The first place we moved to had an abundance of amenities: a larger than life pool, bocce ball courts, a reading garden, mini-golf course, and weight room. It was easy to start over and create a new us. But one of the things we loved best were the community fire pits on a quiet evening. Peaceful. Calm. Sunset. Cozy.
Don’t be Afraid to Start Over
Change doesn’t have to be hard. It can be a fresh start, a way out, a second chance. We only have one life to live. Don’t be afraid to start over if you need a great reset.
