Home is where the heart is. Home is wherever you are. It is whenever you are. Home is however you are. There is a set norm that we follow, isn’t there? We grow up, find a career, put down roots, maybe we buy a house. Settle down. The concept works for most people.
Welcome to Forward Our Mail! We are on a mission to normalize a new way of life, and you are invited to share in our adventure. Living outside the box is where adventure begins. We want to live that adventure.
I think there is an established idea of what empty-nesters and retirees should do, how they should live, where they should live, and how they should behave. It feels a little bit like living inside a box. We follow the norm; we pursue the American dream. We follow the same patterns and routines everyone else follows, and we rarely stop to think about what else there may be.
I’ve watched people live this lifestyle. They get older, after working their entire lives, they wait for the day they can retire and enjoy some well-earned free time. Then, when the time comes, they are too tired, too sick, have saved too little, or have lost interest in living another life.
Big adventures
Oprah Winfrey said, “The biggest adventure you can ever take is to live the life of your dreams.” We are in the age of digital nomads, millennials living in vans, expats roaming abroad, and retirees living on cruise ships. We don’t have to follow the ‘norm.’ We can do things differently. Life can be lived differently and still be home. It may take some planning and effort, but I assure you it’s worth it.
