I love good simple solutions, don’t you? I mean, those little things that don’t cost a lot of money, don’t require a new gadget, and bring order to the chaos in my everyday life. When you live in a small space, sometimes the smallest things become a nuisance, and things that might not otherwise be an annoyance, become one. It’s those tiny little, albeit unimportant things, I love to find solutions to – and share them with you!
A simple solution for pesky cords…
One thing I’ve learned while living in a small space is that the cords to my iron, my steamer, and my clothes shaver are quite annoying! We have wire shelving in our laundry space that we cannot change. Leaving the cords dangling is not a solution. I’ve tried wrapping them around the appliance – they just come undone. I have them stored in a pretty basket to keep them tidy – but they end up a tangled mess. But then one day, this simple solution presented itself; it quite literally fell out of the sky (or rather off that wire shelf…).
If you’re a beach goer, a lake visitor, or a pool lounger, you are probably more than familiar with those little inexpensive clips used to keep your towel secured to your chair. We have a set of these I purchased when we moved into this apartment. They are intended to use at the pool. But they make great cord wraps!

This little pack of six clips is $5.00 on Amazon. But you could also use double-sided velcro, or even magnetic cable ties.
A simple solution for stuck on stains…
Some things we just accept as a part of life, like stuck on stains that accumulate on cookware. Maybe these little things don’t annoy others, but they drive me a little bit Billie Bonkers (as John likes to say…).
I, for one, like my cookware to look like new – or as close to it – for as long as possible. We wash our cookware after each use, but somehow, over time, a sticky greasy buildup accumulates on the surface that refuses to budge. But not any more!
I use my enameled cast iron dutch oven for numerous things; chili, peanut butter fudge, roasting… But I use it most for baking sourdough bread. What I cannot figure out is where the splatters come from. But, still, that pot comes from my oven looking like it’s been through an ordeal! But I have found a simple solution – and this one doesn’t cost a lot either. And I bet you have it right in your own home…
The Nasty Pot…

This is the lid to my dutch oven. As you can see, it is covered in a stuck on mess! And this photo was taken after soaking in a sink of boiling water, and running through the dish washer…twice! It was stuck on! Imagine that film that accumulates on the glass of the oven door… THAT is what this was like.
The Simple Solution…
But there is a product that has been a total game changer for me… and it’s not a specialty product or an expensive product. It just simply works! And that product is…. Soft Scrub! Can you believe that? For $3.49 you have a simple solution to a big mess! I use a wire mesh scrubber (for the outside of cookware only) and every single stain came free.
I drizzle on a little of the Soft Scrub, and give it a gently swirl (just to get it covered). Then I let it sit for about two minutes. There is something in this product that starts to break down the baked on grease and it’s quite miraculous (in my humble opinion.)

The Remarkable Difference…
After the two minute wait time, I start wiping away with the wire mesh. Now, let me explain: I did not use any force, no elbow grease was involved. I simply started wiping. There were a couple placed under the handle that I needed to give a little pressure to, but for the most part, this product did 85% of the work for me.

And, BONUS, this same solution works for that glass oven door I mentioned, too! No more pesky scrapers. No more chemical fumes!
Two simple solutions to managing your home…
Well, friends, I hope you’re inspired to clean your pots and pans and tidy up those pesky cords! These simple solutions have been total game changers for me. Maybe these things don’t bother you like they do me… If not, I’ll see you in the next blog post and we’ll chat about another new topic! See you then!
xo, Billie
