I have always loved Christmas. There is something so very special about the lights, the festivities, and especially the music. One day in early October, I was out for my morning walk. It was crisp and cool that morning, and I found myself humming Silent Night. The thought occurred to me that it has been a long time since I’ve had a silent night. You know. The ones where all is calm? Life is funny that way, isn’t it?
As I continued my walk, I put on one of my Christmas playlists. The words from some very familiar carols filled my heart with an overwhelming peace. The thought that a tiny baby, wrapped in swaddling cloths and laid in a manger could be so much… With each new song, the heaviness in my heart grew lighter and lighter.
That was how An Advent of Carols came to be. I have selected a few precious Christmas carols, hymns if you will, to focus my heart on this Christmas season. With them, I have created brief devotionals taken from the hymns themselves. Also included, are the lyrics sheets and a Spotify playlist.
