Spring is right around the corner, and as I looked through my wardrobe I didn’t feel very springlike. I didn’t see a single thing that had any zing! Granted, I’m a neutral lover. I typically want all of my clothing options to be black, tan, white, or cream. Maybe, just maybe, if I’m feeling a little ‘out of the box’ I’ll add in brown. That’s why I decided to add a little pizzazz and freshen up my spring capsule wardrobe. Guess what? It’s ALL color! And the best part is everything I picked works with everything else! Wanna see it?

Destination Inspiration: Frances Valentine
I may have been living under a very large rock for the past 50+ years, but I JUST discovered Frances Valentine. Elyce Arons is a fashion designer based out of NYC, and is the CEO of Frances Valentine. She was also the co-founder of Kate Spade. Maybe that’s why I fell in love with her color choices and styling combinations. But let me say, I CAN’T HELP MYSELF!
While I’m a huge fangirl of the style, I am NOT ecstatic over the price tag. If you know, you know! So what’s a frugal girl to do? I started shopping around, doing my own reconnaissance, and building a similar style on a very minimal budget. All of the items in the curated looks below come in at under $40. Most come in under $30, and a bunch of them are on sale for 50-60% off. I could not believe my eyes! You’re going to love what I’ve put together for you. Same look; fraction of the cost.
Color Combination #1: Pink and Green
I’m a lover of all things classic: Classic novels, classic movies, classic cars, and above all, classic fashion. I want so badly to be Audrey Hepburn when I grow up! While a lot of the color combos I’m going to show you aren’t trending on the runways, I believe they hold a very special place, both in history, and today. Some of them are reminiscent of the 1950’s, some in the 1960’s; but all of them translate equally as well to 2025!
I decided to step outside – WAY OUTSIDE – my comfort zone and build a spring and summer capsule wardrobe that is filled to overflowing with color. And let me tell you…I can’t be more excited.
If you’re looking for a refresh, a restyle, or just a little inspiration, then this article is for YOU! We are starting with a Pink and Green color combo. (I’ll try to link everything I can.)

In this color combo we have some amazing accessories: One green purse, one pink purse, one green belt, one pink belt, one pink sandal, and one green ballet flat.
Then we have three tee shirts: one with pink roses, one with an allover floral print, and one solid white tee.
Because it’s chilly with indoor air conditioning, there are three sweaters to throw over your shoulders: One floral sweater, one pink cardigan, and one green cardigan.
Finally, the bottoms: There is one pink floral maxi skirt, one pair of green palazzo pants, one pair of hot pink capris, and one green floral maxi skirt.
Each bottom can be paired with multiple tops and multiple accessories to make an endless amount of great outfits to suit your occasion.
Color Combination #2: Blue, Yellow, and Green
Like the combination above, every bottom goes with every top. Each accessory piece can be mixed and matched to make endless outfit possibilities! If you’re not a fan of the brighter brights in the first color combo, then the blue and yellow and green capsule may be more your speed. It’s a great way to add in some spring color without feeling like you’re putting yourself out on a color limb! Some of the items in this capsule wardrobe are taken from the pink and green capsule.

Accessories: One green purse, and one blue denim purse. One yellow belt, and one green belt. One pair of yellow flats, one pair of blue flats, and one pair of green flats.
Tops: One blue and yellow floral tee, one blue roses tee, and one solid white tee.
Sweaters: One blue and white ‘lady jacket’ cardigan, one green cardigan, one floral cardigan.
Bottoms: One pair green palazzo pants, one blue satin skirt, one denim dress, one green floral skirt, and one blue floral skirt.
Color Combination #3: Pink and Blue
The final spring capsule wardrobe color combination is pink and blue. Like the capsule above, many of the items in this final capsule have been taken from the previous two capsules.
Once you determine a color palette for your wardrobe, it’s easy to see how each piece can combine with any of the other pieces to make multiple outfit combinations. As long as you stay within your determined color palette, your wardrobe will serve you well, and you will be ready for anything!

Accessories: one blue denim purse, one hot pink purse. One pink sandal, one pair of blue flats, and one pink belt.
Tops: One blue roses tee, one pink rose tee, and one solid white tee.
Sweaters: One pink cardigan, one blue and white ‘lady jacket’ cardigan, one floral cardigan.
Bottoms: One blue satin skirt, one pair of hot pink capris, one denim dress, one pair of blue cigarette pants, and one blue floral skirt.
Anticipating Endless Possibilites
If you love mixing and matching outfits, packing for travel with ease, and knowing you always have something in your closet to wear no matter the occasion, then capsule wardrobes are for you! Simply pick your color palette, select bottoms, tops and accessories within that palette, and you will have countless opportunities to create new and exciting combinations.
What I love most about the choices in this post is that individually, each item can stand alone. You don’t have to buy the shoes to match the skirt. You don’t have to buy the sweater to match the pants. Each of these pieces goes equally as well paired with wardrobe staples you already own. Imagine the pink sweater with a pair of black pants. Or think of the pink capris with a white tank top and pashmina. Imagine the pink sandals and purse with a little black dress. Or a little white dress! It’s hours of fun just waiting to be had.
And what if you’re looking for no-spend options? Well, then I would suggest getting your favorite separates from your closet and playing with new and exciting outfit combinations. Try more colors with more patterns, add in an animal print, or throw in one single pop of unexpected color. Wherever you’re staring from, and whatever your budget allows, you can always think outside the box and be creative with your personal style!
Leave a comment below and let me know your favorite color combinations! Do you like bright colors, primary colors, or naturals? I can’t wait to hear your answers 🙂
