How to embrace summer. It’s July 4th weekend and people in the states are celebrating freedom with fireworks, barbecues, and pool parties. There are corn hole tournaments, disc golf gambles, pickle ball battles, and badminton competitions in backyards and city parks everywhere. Here is how we like to embrace summer.

A Tranquil Reset
Not everyone has the opportunity to lounge by the pool, we understand that. But being by the water or out in nature has a profound effect on one’s wellbeing. Embrace summer by taking an early morning hike, or renting a kayak and trolling along a local water source. Lounging poolside with a refreshing beverage and a good book, or even just packing a picnic to take to a local park or arboretum can be just the reset your mind needs.
Do Something Local
Every area we have lived in has local activities whether it’s a holiday weekend or a regular one. Sometimes we fall into the mindset that we have to be on vacation to experience new things – but there are always fun things to do in local areas too.
- Visit a local tourist attraction
- Visit a local museum or exhibit
- Enjoy a local sporting event
Do something good for yourself
I like to embrace summer by doing something good for myself. It may sound odd, but I always take time to read a good book, and to clean or organize something. We find it’s easier to move if we stay organized and keep things tidy throughout the year. Summer offers us a little more downtime, and I make it a point to tackle a few less than exciting tasks so I make life easier on myself later.
We also seek out local restaurants in our area to try out. Our small-ish town has new restaurants popping up all the time. We love to give try them out, we get to support a local business, and it gives us GREAT recommendations when people ask.
Embrace Summer
Whatever you do, however you reset, embrace summer and all it has to offer: more down time, recreation opportunities, and the chance to make memories with those you love.
